The Indiana Chamber’s 16th annual statewide employer survey released in October 2023 stated that 74% of employers view meeting their talent needs as a challenge and that attracting and retaining workers was the biggest workforce challenge.

In the same survey, 67% of Hoosier employers reported they are interested in or using skills-based hiring in their talent strategy. We also know that hiring for skill is the highest predictor for someone’s job performance and a structured onboarding program increases productivity by over 70% and retention by up to 82%.

What Is Skills-Based Talent Strategy?

Skills-Based Talent Strategy uses skills to update job postings, screening processes, interview panels and selection considerations to find qualified talent and reduce turnover. Skills-Based Talent Strategy also incorporates the skill levels learned through the hiring process to create structured onboarding experiences and utilize the skills for the job to inform performance evaluations as well as development and advancement. Employer Skills-Based Hiring Accelerator Program

  • structured coaching sessions; and
  • forum events and peer-to-peer learning.

Skills-Based Hiring Activator Training

The Activator Training is for those who are helping employers, partners and or/ internal colleagues understand as well as implement skills-based practices. The free training includes the following:

  • Three, three-hour hands-on trainings with a community of practitioners
